Pluribus Season 2 Report: Continuing A Troubling Streaming Trend

A new report surrounding Pluribus season 2’s production confirms that, like many other ongoing TV shows, it is continuing an annoying streaming trend.

Apple TV was already considered the best streaming platform for science fiction before Pluribus premiered towards the end of 2025 and solidified its reign. With a near-perfect Rotten Tomatoes score, Pluribus shattered viewership records on Apple TV and became the service’s most-watched show. The Vince Gilligan series was also renewed for another installment even before it ended its season 1 run.

Unfortunately, despite having so much going on in its favor, Pluribus season 2 is still not overcoming a major streaming problem.

Vince Gilligan’s Pluribus Season 2 Report Confirms It Isn’t Releasing Before 2027

Vince Gilligan previously revealed that he had no intention of rushing his way towards Pluribus season 2. Stephen King, too, responded to this, reminding Gilligan that he is not getting any younger. Check out his tweet below:

A hopeful Pluribus report from Rhea Seehorn later verified that the show’s writers were already working on its script and trying to progress as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, Vince Gilligan has now clarified that audiences should not expect Pluribus season 2 to come out anytime soon. He assured (via The Hollywood Reporter) that he and his writers were “plugging away.“

However, he also warned that “it takes a long time to come up with these episodes.“

He even compared Pluribus with The Pitt and classic sci-fi shows like The X-Files, highlighting that it is not possible for them to repeat the same annual release schedule as the hit shows. He added that Pluribus season 2, like season 1, will likely get a year-end release, but its return in 2026 seems very unlikely.

“We appreciate everybody’s patience. But it ain’t gonna be The Pitt, coming back every year. I wish it would be because it’s an awesome show that’s old-school, like we used to do The X-Files [when] we’d come back the same month every year. It will not be like The Pitt. We’ll come back the same month — just the question is what year.”

The Long Wait For Pluribus Season 2 Will Be Worth It

Shows like The Pitt have become rare exceptions in the streaming era because most other series struggle to return with new seasons every year. On Apple TV, some of the best shows, like Severance, even end up leaving several years between seasons, which is frustrating because these long gaps make it hard to stay emotionally invested in a show.

As Stephen King pointed out, no one’s getting any younger, raising the possibility that one might not even live long enough to see a beloved series reach its natural conclusion.

Fortunately, shows like Pluribus ensure that their new installments are always worth the wait. Given how Pluribus season 1 ended, waiting for season 2 can feel painfully long and annoying. However, considering Vince Gilligan’s writing forte and creative vision, it is still hard not to believe that it will perfectly pay off everything season 1 has set up and make us forget about the time it took to release.
